Vanitas

Type: Still-life Photography Series

Project Status: Completed

Vanitas is a still-life photography project inspired by the Baroque genre of Vanitas art from the 16th and 17th centuries. The series features symbolic objects such as books, broken violins, glass, and flowers, representing themes of mortality and the futility of wealth, ambition, and knowledge. While the philosophical themes of Vanitas don’t fully reflect my own beliefs, I was deeply drawn to its stylistic elements. The dark, emotional atmosphere it creates aligns with the kind of beauty I’ve always dreamed of capturing - one that evokes deep thoughts and emotions. The photographs were created across a month from January until February 2024.
